Leadership is like a journey, regardless of the Leader being aware of it or not. Once the Leader assumes the role, the journey has begun. On this journey, the organisations need to know where their destination is or if they are going anywhere. Therefore, the goal of the Leader is to give the vision, the purpose and the reason for the direction the team is going into.
It is important the Leadership vision is aligned to the corporate vision, which is the purpose of business and draws out the corporate mission. To achieve this corporate vision, Leaders need to understand the corporate values and be able to connect them to their individual values.
Values are an essential part of one’s identity - they describe who we are, and what we stand for. Value is the key driver that defines what a person desires in work and life. Value reflects what we find rewarding and pay attention to or what we dislike and avoid. It influences the decisions we make about people, projects, plans and strategy. Values filter perception. Being aware of your value and unconscious biases, we can begin to adapt our behavior in ways that will create a more productive working situation for ourselves and our teams.
